Local Walks Coastal Nature Park

Adjacent to Priory Hill is the entrance to our Coastal Nature Park. The park is an unspoiled area of undulating grass land with small copses of woods.

The Park is basically a strip of land several 100 meters wide running the along the coastline for a couple of Kilometers. To the north of the park is Leysdown's unspoiled beach with is Sandy/Shingle shore line, and to the south of the park is a path running parallel with views over local farm land looking to marshy fenlands and the Swale, the waterway running behind the Isle of Sheppey.

The Park is an ideal area to take a leisurely afternoon/evening stroll, it's paths are easily managed by all ages, and a slow walk around the park would take most people just a couple of hours. For those of you who prefer more of a "ramble" take look at our walk to Shellness.
If you turn right outside our main entrance and proceeded east past the few houses at the end of Wing road, you will find one entrance to the Coastal Park (note the children's play area to your left). Through the gate will lead you onwards along a path between the local 9 hole golf course and gorse-land. The path is partly paved at this point as the whole area in its distanced past was a historical airfield.

Past the golf course on the right you can see views over the farm land to the Swale in the distance, and onwards to the Kentish mainland. After about 10 minutes the path has a branch to the right, this will take you to Muswell Manor, The last easterly Holiday park on the island, (and the birth place of British Aviation), and eventually back to the beach.
If you keep to the main path and follow it round to the left you will see in the distance the "Retreat" Cafe, where in season, you can purchase a variety of excellent drinks and food. To the right of the cafe is a car park and behind is the beach. At this point you are about halfway around this walk and most people stop for a drink and sit near or on the beach for a rest. Standing on the sea wall you can see views back along the beach back to Leysdown and looking to the right views to the tip of Sheppey (Shellness) and across the sea to Whistable and  Margate.

Most people then walk back along the sea wall or beach until they reach the Coastal Car park and the Garden Cafe (another excellent establishment for food and drink). While at the costal car park, you can walk across the road to Priory Hill's touring park and back to our main site, or walk through the field adjacent to the Pitch & Putt course near the children's climbing frame and back to Priory Hill. All in all a nice afternoon's stroll and enough to set your appetite going for a good meal and drink at our bar, or later at the Friary in the club house.
