FORT
AMHERST - Chatham Kent
Experience the excitement of exploring two hundred years of living history
at Fort Amherst. Since 1756, the fort has echoed to the sounds of military
life, from Napoleonic times to the Second World War.
Today, Fort Amherst offers a vivid insight into the lives of the soldiers
and their families through living and static displays and regular events
and re-enactments in period costume.
The reconstructed wartime bunker and supporting exhibitions give a unique
interpretation of The Fort’s World War II role.
Fort Amherst is located on the A231, Dock Road, that runs from Chatham to
Gillingham and is close to both town centres. It is also just a short walk
from Chatham Historic Dockyard and The Royal Engineers Museum.
